What is your child’s foundational reading & math comfort level?
Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) is the bedrock of all future learning. This digital assessment does not score children 0–100%; instead, it diagnoses the highest skill level a child can comfortably perform and immediately turns the result into targeted micro-practice.
What is FLN and Why Does It Matter?
Under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the NIPUN Bharat guidelines, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) refers to basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills that a child should attain by Class 3 (around age 8).
The ability to recognise letters, decode unfamiliar words, and read simple connected sentences fluently with comprehension.
The critical transition: Until Class 3, children "learn to read". From Class 4 onward, they must "read to learn". If this foundation is missing, all subsequent subjects (science, social studies, languages) become difficult to absorb.
The ability to recognise single and two-digit numbers, grasp place value, and perform basic arithmetic operations like subtraction and division.
Why rote scores fail: A child in Class 5 who cannot do two-digit subtraction with borrowing does not need higher-grade syllabus drill—they need targeted conceptual reinforcement in place-value regrouping.

Letters · Words · Paragraph · Story
Read letters, words, and short passages aloud into your microphone. Evaluated using speech recognition with dialect tolerance and hesitation pre-filtering.
1–9 · 11–99 · Subtraction · Division
Recognise numbers and solve progressively harder arithmetic problems: 2-digit subtraction with borrowing and 3-by-1 digit division with remainder.
How We Assess Here — Grounded in ASER Guidelines
In accordance with the official ASER 2022 instruction manual, the goal is not to test memorization, but to identify the highest level of basic reading and arithmetic the child can do comfortably.
- 1. Starting Point: Class 3+ starts at Paragraph (Class 1–2 starts at Letters). This keeps the assessment short and supportive.
- 2. Letter Level: Recognises at least 4 out of 5 letters correctly (80%).
- 3. Word Level: Reads at least 4 out of 5 everyday words correctly (80%).
- 4. Paragraph Level: Reads connected sentences fluently (not as disconnected words) with ≤ 3 mistakes.
- 5. Story Level: Reads a full 7-sentence story fluently and with ease with ≤ 3 mistakes.
- ✓ ASER Tolerance: Dialect variants (e.g. ata/atey) and natural synonyms (e.g. mausam/samay) are explicitly tolerated and not penalized.
- 1. Starting Point: Class 3+ starts at 2-digit Subtraction with Borrowing (Class 1–2 starts at 1–9).
- 2. 1–9 Recognition: Identifies at least 4 out of 5 single-digit numbers correctly (80%).
- 3. 11–99 Recognition: Identifies at least 4 out of 5 two-digit numbers correctly (80%).
- 4. Subtraction Level: Correctly solves 2 out of 2 two-digit subtraction problems involving borrowing.
- 5. Division Level: Solves a 3-digit by 1-digit division problem with both quotient and remainder correct.
- ✓ Supportive Environment: Children are given scratchpad support and second-chance checks for careless calculation slips.
